The Sacraments
Anointing of the Sick
Christ’s healing presence for the ill, the suffering, and the dying.
In the Anointing of the Sick, the Church brings the comfort and strength of Christ to those who are seriously ill, facing surgery, weakened by age, or nearing the end of life. Through the prayer of the priest and the anointing with holy oil, the sick person is united to the suffering of Christ, given grace and peace, and — if it is God’s will — restored to health. It is a sacrament not of fear, but of hope and consolation.
If someone is seriously ill or near death
Please do not wait. Call the parish as soon as you can so a priest can come. Fr. Brooks is available for the Anointing of the Sick and sacramental emergencies and may be reached at email Fr. Brooks (address loads in a moment).
Communal anointing each month
Our parish celebrates the Anointing of the Sick together as a community after Mass on the fourth Sunday of every month. All who are ill, elderly, facing surgery, or in need of the Lord’s healing are warmly invited to come forward to be anointed. There is no need to sign up — simply remain after Mass, and the priest will anoint those who wish to receive the sacrament.
Good to know
Who may be anointed
Anyone seriously ill, preparing for surgery, weakened by age, or facing a grave illness. It may be received more than once as health declines.
At home or in hospital
If someone cannot come to church, a priest will gladly visit the home, hospital, or care facility. Just let the office know.
The Last Rites
For those near death, the Church offers Anointing together with Confession and Holy Communion (Viaticum). Please call without delay.
